PGRL Recording Artist Jeff Ward sealed the deal for his GRAAFix LC Motorsports crew on Tuesday night, converting late heartbreak for team owner Marc Cohn into the organization’s 22nd win on 2/22/22.
The green flag for the Going Back to Cali 200 presented by SnoopDawgyDon on Twitch.tv dropped just past 2pm sim time, with pole-sitter Kevin Bartelt comfortably pacing the 38-car field. Three-, four-, and five-wide racing occurred throughout the pack as drivers battled the dual challenges of a worn surface and a low downforce package.
At the front, the lead was furiously contested between multiple cars from the Domination Intimidation Racing and GRAAFix LC Motorsports stables. Michael Strohl battled Jeff Ward and Scott Eckrich, while Chad Mikosz took on Marc Cohn and Mike Rasimas. The race looked like it was heading towards an epic showdown between Mikosz and Cohn, but both drivers spun from the top two positions with eight laps to go.
Jeff Ward found an opening through the smoke, and held off a hard-charging Thomas George to win the race on a one-lap shootout. Mike Rasimas finished third, with Rich Jette and Woody Mahan rounding out the top 5.
Danny Gutierrez and series newcomer Joe Hassert were the biggest movers of the event, each gaining 30 places from their starting positions to finish 7th and 8th respectively. Rett McBride suffered race-ending damage on lap 23, but earned the Mahan Speed Laboratories You Finished Last Pole Award, allowing him to start next week’s race from the front of the field.
The Pretty Good Racing League heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Memestonks Vegas 200 presented by SnoopDawgyDon on Twitch.tv on Tuesday, March 1. The Virtual Grip Network will have all the action covered live beginning at 8:50pm ET.
