New Motherboard, Same Scott; Eckrich Wins in PGRL Return

Despite missing three races and starting last as a past champion, Scott Eckrich picked up where he left off — in Victory Lane. The driver from just down the road in Illinois led 90 of 160 laps at Gateway, scoring his 7th win of 2022.

Isaiah Dupre started the Muscular Dystrophy Association Fundraiser 200 from pole position, but was quickly passed by Adam Jurski. The Cheesecake Emporium owner led the first 22 laps before relinquishing the top spot to Drew Carroll, allegedly slowing to check the consistency of his latest graham cracker crust.

The Cheesecake Machine looked sweet out front.

From then on, a quintet of LPM Group drivers, along with Rich Jette, took turns at the front. Jeff Ward and Scott Eckrich appeared to be the cars to beat, with Eckrich having a pace advantage on the long run. A caution with 7 laps to go provided a chance for a reset; however, earlier damage to the #9 machine of Ward took him out of contention with repairs on pit road.

Scott Eckrich and Jeff Ward combined to lead 75% of the race, and had several close battles, like this one.

Eckrich held off Carroll on the restart to claim both the win and the Hard Charger Award, his gain of 25 positions being the biggest move up through the field. Danny Gutierrez continued his quietly consistent season with a 3rd place finish, while Brian Yaczik and Vincent Crow rounded out the top five.

The Scott Eckrich Rule — a mandatory last-place start — couldn’t hold back the driver of the #70, as he won from 26th on the grid.

The Pretty Good Racing League heads to Sonoma Raceway for The Joy of Driving without Drinking on Tuesday, June 14. The Virtual Grip Network will have all the action from Wine Country covered live beginning at 8:50pm ET.
